Hello and happy December 25/Christmas Day!
This morning we've dropped a brand-spankin' new update to the Trivial Trivia: The Newgrounds Collection entry to our Trivial Trivia series. This was the first-ever TT game I've personally released here on Newgrounds so it's had a special place in my mind since release. Today we're able to give it some additional love through an update that's been in the works all month!
You can check out the game here, or keep reading for more details.
Preamble: This is being written at 4AM Newgrounds time on Christmas Day - sorry if this doesn't read all too well!
What’s New and Different?
Over 200 *new* questions have been added across all the packs. This update introduces references to Science Zone, Spooky Month, Summergrounds, Lospec Jams, and many other submissions, events, and community-driven content! All existing packs have had an update. All questions new or old have been modified and improved (yes this took all month)!
Over 120 questions have been removed or heavily modified for various reasons (quality, factual changes, fun-ness). Many questions asking about Newgrounds stats or what awards a submission may or may not have won are removed. Very specific date questions are removed.
Two trivia packs (All About Newgrounds & Newgrounds Events and Collabs) now have some picture questions! Special thanks to all who said it's OK to use their art for this project (see the bottom of this post, the in-game credits, or the project description for more info)!
Trivial Gauntlet is further developed! – introduction of 4 endless modes for you to play in this entry!
All trivia packs now have a theme that isn't super basic. Some of these themes and audio tracks will be familiar, some will be new!
Lastly, the codebase for this game has been updated to the latest Trivial Trivia build – this means you now have access to Trivial Tokens, after-question tips/hints, enhanced question, leaderboard, and stats viewing, many bugfixes, and more in the Newgrounds Collection game!
New Question Counts for Trivia Packs
The new question count for packs are as follows:
- Newgrounds: 200 (+50)
- Events and Collabs: 112 (+28)
- FNF: 52 (+2)
- TANKMEN: 50 (+2)
- Pico: 50
- Madness: 52 (+4)
- Pebbles Quest: 50 (+2)
- Stickmen: 53 (+7)
While Pico did not net any new questions, it had many old questions re-worked or replaced. This is also the same for every other pack...
Anything Else?
I (or appless) will be posting an end-of-year post sometime over the next few days to outline plans for 2025 and where we're going with the series. There will be a hiatus in January where no new submissions will be published. This will be to better focus on addressing technical debt and issues under the hood that I've been unable to properly address for a few months now.
We'll better outline what this means soon. I can share however that we know what our February entry to the Trivial Trivia series will be... more info on that in 2025!
This update took quite a bit of effort and manual conversions to get everything working right. When we released the Newgrounds Collection we had no easy way to add/modify questions to packs (or even run spellcheck!) which made for a much more difficult time getting this update out. Appless spent most of the month manually copying data over to new data files so we can easily modify questions and pack info down the road. Funny enough, all incorrect answers for questions did not make the jump over, so ALL multiple choice questions in the game will have a new pool of incorrect answers!
